My first blog.....ever!

I was trying to think of something profound to write but decided that if I waited for that....I may not ever blog! One of many things I like about this book is that it keeps me mindful to show appreciation and to let people know how grateful I am in all things.

Toby and I love to walk down the street. He poops and I pick it up. I feel like I am playing a game with myself while we walk....kind of like the "Who can do the best act of kindness?", except that I am playing by myself and there isn't any competition! Today, Toby and I put people's Sunday paper close to their doors. I don't know if they noticed or not, but is didn't matter. We tried and I felt good. Today I am thankful for:

The sound of rain which we haven't heard for weeks.
At this time, at this moment, Jessica and Sharon feel good!

Tomorrow I am going to read the chapter, "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff...Notice It." It will be a good week!
I love you guys so much. I hope you have a great Monday.

Love, Sandy

Happy:)

Today I was thankful for Ella's smile that I got to see today when she came to visit (with her mom!), a nice nurse at a doctor's appointment for Katelyn, and seeing my mom along the road (I was driving to pick up kids, she was walking) and we got to have a surprise short chat.

Happy Thoughts for Monday

Hi All,
The more the merrier! Wouldn't it be easy if we just listed our yucky stuff. Why is that? I know that we have more happy things then not but I sure can't remember them. Welcome Diane and Mom!
My three happy things today:
I was able to spend ten minutes talking with my friend Candy today...she brought me a Carmel apple that I shared with the kids.
I forgot what the date was all day long
My principal spoke to me today and I made him laugh.
I got to see Kim Stegall today.

xoxo

First Chapter

I have almost finished the first chapter and I really like it so far. I especially like the part about her getting to move to first class. I am smiling just thinking about it! I also like the scientific study info. I would not like to be the one in the class that had to write down all the bad things that happened to you! Can you imagine. It would be quite a downer. What about the kids that had to do that all semester! Today, I am already thankful that I was able to sleep the whole night (an anomaly). Thanks, Jac, for the fist book recommendation. I think it will be great:)

Why's and when's

Hi All,
I am the one who chose this book so I will be the facilitator for the first chapter. This book was chosen because of all the unrest and plain yuck going on in our lives. If we concentrate on just that we won't even be able to get out of the bed in the mornings. We can still complain and feel bad about what life has dealt us but we need to balance it with positives, also. So...I saw this book on TV the other night and thought we would give it a try.

Week One: Please try to have this done by October 15th.
1. Buy the book. Try to actually purchase it so you can write in it. If you can't find/buy one let me know and I will take care of it.
2. I will send each of you a journal who does not have one. Let me know by sending your address to me at jamcurtis@aol.com. This will be a gratitude journal for this book. I can't stand journaling so if I can do it you can do it!
3. Write down each day three things that were good that day (pg. 27). It could be as basic as seeing a flower on the side of the road that you liked. Although we are extremely grateful about each other, let's try to look outside of our family. An added bonus would be to blog some of your entries.

4. Read the Introduction and chapter one by October 15th.

Love you all. Thanks for giving it a try.
Jacque

Thankful

I bought the book last night (if you order on line, it is cheaper, but then you have the shipping costs). It was much smaller than I expected so it shouldn't be that difficult to read. I will also list the books that my NY book club reads incase you have an opportunity to read more. So far my favorite is Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I think that is the only book that I have ever read that I remember the author's name, except for Dr. Suess! I encourage you to pick it up and read it.

Love to all,
Janette

First Post

Okay, so I started the blog. I had to come up with the name all by myself, so if you want to change it, well, that might be hard...but, possible. I choose it because I like to read happy books. I guess they don't all have to be happy. But if they don't at least end happy, then, I am not too interested in that either. I am excited to get started. Our first book is called Thank You Power: Making the Science of Gratitude Work for You by Deborah Norville. I know nothing about it. But, the title sounds great...and happy!

Love you all,
Jess
